My story began on March 1, 2009; at about 7:00 p.m. I was in my basement when an attack of pain on my right side in the groin area struck me - the pain it caused was off the chart. My wife took me to emergency at Lorain Community Health Partners. As we walked in, everyone could see I was in a very bad way. All I remember were hospital workers removing my clothes in an attempt to help me and, the last thing I remember is the helicopter and being put inside where it was cold.
Four days later, I woke up in the ICU.
I found out I had suffered an abnormal aortic aneurysm, as well as aneurysms of both common iliac arteries. Dr. Christopher Smith, Surgery, performed a procedure called an aortic endograft that inserted stents on the right and left side of the groin area (open surgical repair was not an option because of other medical conditions). I have been told I am the first person to have this procedure done at MetroHealth. I was surprised to say the least.
I am happy to report I am well and getting better every day. I still have some "pins and needles" feeling, but I am told it will get better in time. I’m grateful to MetroHealth for having the technology to save my life. The doctors were truly miracle workers.
May God bless you!
