In Good Hands With MetroHealth Surgeons
My name is Rochelle Boykin and my miracle began on August 25, 2007; I was diagnosed with Colon Cancer. My surgery was schedule a few months later on December 13, and was performed at another hospital. After the surgery I had complications, and on March 22, I had a procedure that showed something went wrong in the first surgery. I was then referred to MetroHealth where I met a wonderful surgeon by the name of Dr. James Merlino, General Surgery, who took time to explain what was going on – a second surgery was needed to repair the damage caused by the first. I was scared because Dr. Merlino told me I needed to be cut open in the same place as the first surgery, and because this surgery was going to be eight hours long. I had heard horror stories about being cut in the same place twice, but Dr. Merlino did such a wonderful job, I was able to return to work in four weeks instead of six months like after the first surgery. I still need another surgery and this is why I'm getting it done at MetroHealth. Dr. Merlino has since left the hospital but he left me in good hands - Dr. Walter Cha, General Surgery.
